BOC Refrigerants has launched a leak detection mix to help the UK refrigeration industry meet European rules on the containment of fluorinated gases.

Refrigerant leaks are normally detected by pressure testing the system with oxygen free nitrogen. However, BOC’s system mixes oxygen free nitrogen and helium, which is composed of smaller molecules. The manufacturer claims this mix is better able to detect small leaks. A helium sensor detects the leaks. The leak detection mix is supplied in an easy to carry cylinder charged to 200bar and fitted with a standard industrial valve outlet.
