Leeds Metropolitan University has won planning permission for phase one of the Portland Gate development scheme.

Cost management firm Turner & Townsend has been appointed QS and Gardiner & Theobald is project manager for the £32m scheme that includes the construction of Rose Bowl, a new business school to be added to the university’s Faculty of Business and Law.

Consultancy Arup and architect Sheppard Robson will design and construct the new building.

Located on an existing car park in central Leeds, to the rear of the Civic Hall, the 11,800 sq m building comprises teaching spaces, lecture theatres, offices and restaurants. Phase two of the scheme, a mixed-use concept, has also received outline planning permission. Phase one is due to start in March 2007 and end by 2008.
