By 2030, half of the world’s new construction will be in China. And Chinese construction companies have already started working in Africa, the Gulf region, South-east Asia and Russia.

These, and many more, statistics are highlighted in a new report, Key Trends in the European and US Construction Marketplace, published by McGraw-Hill Construction and Reading University and supported by the CIOB.

Construction activity around the world impacts on materials prices, migrant labour, competition from overseas firms and highlights possible new markets.

For example, the report identifies India as a strong future player in the global construction market, requiring new infrastructure, maintenance and housing. It also highlights transition economies such as those in Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union, including Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovenia as having well-trained professionals and offering strong opportunities in the future.
