Over 100 industry folk gathered at Haydock Park to enjoy a day of horse racing and hospitality

The Glass Age Raceday got off to a super start last month. Over 100 industry folk gathered at sunny Haydock Park to enjoy a day of horseracing and hospitality

The first ever Glass Age Raceday got off to a super start last month. Over 100 industry folk gathered at Haydock Park to enjoy one of the last meets of the flat season.

This also meant sitting through tasty three course silver service lunch in the Park Suite restaurant overlooking looking the racecourse, and an appearance from Haydock’s resident tipster to point out the likely racewinners. Glass Age takes no responsibility for what happened when the racing began . . . although many placed bets on at least one winner, and some actually ended their raceday in profit!

The day also presented horseracing with a twist – the races were sponsored by industry companies. And so we had the Classic Door Panels Nursery Handicap Stakes, the Cervoglass Fortune Stakes, the Float Glass Industries Handicap Stakes, the In Your Face Handicap Stakes, and the Bohle Maiden Stakes.

First race of the day was the Glass Age Handicap Stakes, all one mile and four furlongs of it. When the favourite, Leslingtaylor, romped home, some decided to take their betting more seriously and headed down to the edge of the racecourse to place their money with bookmakers for a wider choice of betting options.

Winning formula

Glass Age Advertising Manager Bernadette Doyle had the original raceday idea. For companies booking tables, it offers a fantastic day of corporate entertaining, where everything is taken care of. There was ample time to chat and network during the day, and the food and service on the day was excellent.

Horseracing and the inevitable betting that goes with it offers a focus to the day – cheering your horse on to win and comparing your gains or losses with colleagues. Guests are free to watch the racing from the balcony of the Park Suite or down by the side of the racecourse, where the horses can be seen close up.

Others agree that the raceday is a winning formula: ‘I must say that I thought the venue was excellent both in terms of the situation, dining and service.’ says Dawn Offland, Director of Float Glass Industries Ltd.

‘The opportunity to choose the best turned out horse from the paddock, view the race from the exec box, award the winner’s trophy and then drink champagne in the boardroom made the whole experience extra special for FGI and our guests.’

Another sponsor was In Your Face Marketing. ‘All our guests had a fabulous day, as did we, and we will certainly pass on the glad tidings to other companies to join us next year’, says Tony Randall, Managing Director of this PR & Marketing Consultancy on the up.

Glass Age would like to thank the raceday sponsors: Classic Door Panels, Cervoglass, Float Glass Industries, In Your Face Marketing, and Bohle. To sponsor your race and book your tables at the Glass Age Raceday next year, contact Bernadette Doyle on 020 7560 4114 or email bdoyle@cmpi.biz
