Tenants have demanded the Scottish Executive prevent Glasgow's stock transfer from going ahead as scheduled this November.
Tenants from three of Glasgow's 78 local housing organisations sent a letter to Scottish Executive first minister, Jack McConnell.

The tenants, from Southside Tenants for Tenants, Orchard Grove LHO and Merrylee LHO, have repeated previous demands that the November deadline for the transfer be reconsidered because they felt they were being rushed into it (HT 4 July, page 9).

Their earlier protest prompted Communities Scotland to extend the deadline for registration (HT 1 August, page 13). However, stock transfer is still officially scheduled to take place by 28 November, with Glasgow Housing Association taking control of housing until the organisations become registered.

Annette Gray, chair of Merrylee LHO, said: "Before the ballot, stock transfer was presented as being tenant-led and tenant-run. But that suggestion is now patently absurd.

"If the GHA takes over the management of the housing, power will be taken out of the tenants' hands. It goes against the conditions under which people agreed to transfer."

A spokesperson for the GHA said: "We are maintaining the same position and will continue to work towards transfer taking place in November. We have listened to what has been said; LHOs that need more time will get it."

Tenants from the Househillwood LHO, which severed relations with the GHA six weeks ago, have said they could be willing to rejoin the registration process. However, a GHA spokesperson said there had been no official approach from the group.
