'I think therefore I tram' - Bite-sized exhibition showcases cross-Thames scheme

You can check out innovative plans for a tram crossing the Thames in London by nipping into a new pod in Elephant & Castle. The “Ecopod” is a small exhibition space outside the Fusion Leisure Centre. It is powered by renewable energy. Films and information are projected on to the outside of the pod, which is illuminated at night in red, blue and yellow.

The pod is currently showcasing proposals for the Cross River Tram, which aims to provide better access to north London for Southwark residents. The service is to run between Euston and Waterloo, with branches in Camden Town and King's Cross in the north and Peckham and Brixton in the south.

Developed by Transport for London, the street-running tram will be 16.5 km long, connected to the Oyster network, and powered by electricity, therefore producing no direct carbon emissions. TfL reckons 66m passengers will use the service each year.
