10:05AM Firm offering strategic cost advice to new Halley research station

Gardiner & Theobald is acting as the strategic cost advisor at the new Halley VI Research Station in Antarctica for client The British Antarctic Survey.

The unique relocatable research station is to be built on the Brunt Ice Shelf in Antarctica. The scheme includes science laboratories, workshops, stores and research areas; domestic accommodation comprising sleeping areas with bathroom facilities; and recreational areas and general stores, plant and generator rooms.

The research station comprises a number of primarily pre-fabricated, steel framed interconnecting modular single and two-storey buildings. The modules are elevated on ski-based jackable legs to avoid burial by snow and can be towed across the ice. The station is designed to be able to function normally for up to two years without physical contact from the outside world.
