The Hungerford headquarters of UPS Systems is set to become the first UK installation to utilise an APC fuel cell system as standby power for its mainstream business-critical IT applications.
The fuel cell standby power system will support the firm’s servers and desktop pc systems. It will be linked to a 10 kW three-phase APC Smart-UPS VT and is intended to provide potentially unlimited runtime in the event of a power failure.
The APC system is based on the hydrogenics fuel cell engine. Hydrogen is passed over the proton exchange membrane, with air is passed over the other side. As there are few moving parts, maintenance is minimal.
