FRIENDLY FIRE: Midland Area Housing Association allowed west Midlands fire crews to burn down two of its empty properties in a demonstration of the importance of sprinkler systems. The home without a sprinkler was ravaged but fire was quickly quelled at the other.

The two homes in the Handsworth area of Birmingham were set for demolition and the site will be redeveloped.
