I have just seen EMC and, on reading Malcom Reynolds’ comments about French flammable flexible conduit, I would like to point out to him that the conduit he saw was not for exposed places, but to be used for cabling buried in walls or floor screeds.

And, the harmonising of colours is taking place in France, too.

With regards to Mr Reynolds’ comments about test certificates, in France any work carried out by an electrician has to have the mandatory ten year guarantee and new work has to have a certificate issued by the contractor. If the contractor is new or not known to the authorities, the installation has to be inspected by an independent body who signs the certificate after testing the installation. Gas installation is the same. As I signed off a bulk propane installation and gave the papers to the proprietor, he said: “If it’s wrong I will join you in prison.” So, here the buck stops with you: not like in England where I once condemned a gas extension but was then ordered to turn the gas back on by the director of a CORGI registered firm because old people in the premises were going to have their Christmas dinner that day and he had promised them that everything would be OK!
