The 21st century builder uses beauty products, weight watches, wears designer clothes and prefers a salad to a fry-up. Sound familiar? Covers, the timber and builders’ merchant, has conducted a builders’ lifestyle census, which reveals these and more surprising facts about today’s style-obsessed site operative.
Builders confess to spending three and a half hours a week on personal grooming, with a quarter of those in the south east spending six to ten hours in the bathroom. One in ten uses a sun bed, with Scottish builders ten times more likely to pay frequent visits to a ‘leccy beach’.
Workers also admit to regularly using as many as 13 beauty products, including body spray, hair gel, face masks and even make up. Those in the south east are the most beauty conscious, with 47% using cleansing body wash, 17% body moisturiser and 39% hair conditioner, hair spray and serum.
Diet is also a common concern nowadays, with almost half of builders watching their weight. Salads and sushi are the preference for over 30% of builders in the south east. While lager and bitter remain popular choices of beverage, 13% now prefer a glass of wine.
Does this sound like someone you know? Are your operatives clamouring for full length mirrors in the site loos? Let EMC know and we’ll showcase the most style-conscious sparky.
