This week’s roofing products include a single-ply membrane used to refurbish part of Olympia London’s grand hall, and concrete roof slates specified for a primary school in Jersey
Single-ply membrane
1600m2 of Protan SE1.2mm SE single-ply membrane was used to refurbish north elevation and apex roofs in Olympia London’s grand hall. The SE single-ply membrane was chosen as it had already been used in the refurbishment of the south elevation. Protan SE membrane has a tensile strength of ≥1050N and tear resistance ≥210N.

Concrete roof slates
Hardrow concrete roof slates from Forticrete were chosen for the construction of a new building accommodating over 200 students and nursery pupils at St Martin’s School in Jersey. The product was specified as the roof was required to blend in with the surrounding countryside. The company said its Hardrow concrete slates can be used instead of natural stone or slate as they possess similar architectural properties and aesthetics.

Roof waterproofing
Sika Liquid Plastics’ built-up roof waterproofing system was chosen to refurbish a 2000m2 roof area at Scunthorpe Asda. The building suffered from water ingress and asbestos, and required a cold applied waterproofing option as the store needed to remain open during the 10-week project. The height of the roof was raised by increasing the insulation thickness. Sika Liquid Plastics’ Decothane Gamma 20 roof coating system was then applied over the roof area.
