More, better, faster, cheaper: what the government is demanding from the housebuilding industry, especially homes with a pricetag of £60,000, looks beyond the realms of the possible. Yet, just look at the winners of this year's Building Homes Quality Awards, organised by Building in association with the Housing Forum. In this issue of Homes charting the achievements of the winners and finalists, you'll find businesses, in both the private and affordable housing sector, that have already stepped up their output, in spite of the much-criticised barriers of the planning system. There are companies that have built better homes in terms of design and build quality. There are others that have applied research and business intelligence to improve their service to the customer and the end product that they provide. And there are some that have built faster and cheaper, using new procurement processes and new methods of construction. True, what the government is asking isn’t easy, but nor is it impossible. This year’s winners of the Building Homes Quality Awards prove it.
