The European Championships sprang into life this week, with Germany and Scotland co-hosting the inaugural multi-sport event. Athletes from 49 countries will compete in the event, which will be held every four years, with athletics taking place in Berlin venues such as the Olympiastadion, while Glasgow and other parts of Scotland will host aquatics, cycling, golf, gymnastics, rowing and the triathlon.
