Roofing supplier ICB has worked with architects Ian Brown Partnership to design bespoke green roofs for 20 beach huts in Blyth, Northumberland
The pitched roof of each 2.5 x 3.5m hut has been covered with an Evalon single-ply waterproofing membrane. This is designed to be durable and resistant to roots. On to this a Diadem green roof system has been fixed. This consists of a protective fleece and drainage and reservoir layers. The roof garden itself comprises a multilayered growing medium and the vegetation, which has been selected to thrive in sea air.
A special galvanized metal Eva edge trim has been installed on the roof edge to keep the entire system in place. A total of 250m2 of green roof has been created.
