There have been chief executives appointed at four of the top 10 contractors and seven of the top 20 housebuilders. What’s behind all this upheaval?
The last 12 months have seen change at the top of almost a dozen of the construction industry’s biggest housebuilders and contractors, including household names such as Persimmon, Galliford Try and Kier. The executive moves have in some cases come after long-time bosses have hung up their boots, able to take pride in jobs largely well done. But much of the change is the result – one way or another – of increasing financial and political pressure on housebuilders and contractors that has caused some of the biggest firms to falter, most obviously Kier. So, why exactly is this happening now? And who are now the industry’s most respected leaders after so many have fallen by the wayside?
