Potential in the facilities management (FM) sector is rising at an astounding rate as more work is outsourced. In 2005, £18.9 billion of contracts were outsourced, representing 44% of the total FM market.

This figure is anticipated to rise to over £22 billion by 2008. The research, sourced from BSRIA's fifth in-depth report on the UK FM market, forecasts a further 17% growth in work, which is most commonly being outsourced in lengthy three-year contracts to contractors.

Looking cautiously to the future, 88% of companies surveyed who are currently involved in the FM market forecast that contracts will become more complex but may include performance-based incentives. While, 79% expected increased pressure to reduce costs and increase flexibility.
