After the great success of its 2003 National Training Conference ('Swap shop', SMT, December 2003, pp30-33), the Security Industry Training Organisation (SITO) has announced that Sir Ronnie Flanagan – Her Majesty's Inspector of Constabulary (HMIC) – is to be the keynote speaker at the 2004 event.
The 2004 Conference is entitled "Together we can". Taking place at the Kassam Stadium on Tuesday 19 October, the event will be looking at the future workforce development requirements of the security industry as a result of both Government and corporate end user thinking.

Sir Ronnie Flanagan will be discussing the results of HMIC's thematic inspection into the use of non-sworn personnel in policing functions.

Speaking to SMT about the event, SITO director Stefan Hay said: "Sir Ronnie's speech marks an important development in the wider policing family. The fact that Her Majesty's Inspector of Constabulary has carried out this work is an example of the changing times facing the security industry, and the importance placed upon the sector becoming increasingly more professional and well respected."
