The design for the first zero emission Antarctic station has been unveiled in Belgium.

The €11.5 million Princess Elisabeth Station will run almost entirely on sustainable energy, using eight wind turbines, solar panels and state-of-the-art insulation. The 700m2 octagonal station is built mainly of wood clad in sheet steel. It will eventually house 20 scientists, who will live in relative comfort using Electrolux appliances, chosen for their energy efficiency.
