Did you watch The Apprentice? In the BBC reality show, a bunch of high fliers competed for a top job under Sir Alan Sugar. The weekly entrepreneurial tasks and inevitable firing sessions made great TV.

The series also demonstrated that it’s hard to find the super salesman and the super strategist in the same person. And there are often no second chances.

Did the candidates remind us of industry characters? A few marketing types can be like Saira, portrayed as rather in-your-face. And the tenacious Northerner Paul? That’s quite a long queue, and our own Andy Westhead is in their somewhere.

One thing’s for sure though: The market conditions in our industry are extremely tough now, and would prove a hard apprenticeship for anyone.
