The fast reaction of Dorgard fire-door hold-open devices from Fireco has prevented a blaze at nursing home from spreading, and averted what could have been a major loss of life.
The fire, at Uplands Registered Nursing Home, Maisemore, Gloucestershire, occurred on the first floor. With the Dorgard listening devices, fixed to fire-doors at the ends of an upper corridor leading to five residents' rooms, the fire doors closed when the alarm bell sounded.
Because of this automatic response, no one occupying the adjoining bedrooms suffered any harmful effects of smoke inhalation. This has proved fatal in previous nursing home fires.
