Puckett, 26, was presented with the prize at a ceremony held last Thursday in London's Four Seasons Hotel.
She beat off stiff competition from a range of journalists from construction and property titles.
The judges, including John Waples, deputy business editor of The Sunday Times, said of Puckett's entry: "She was the winner by a clear margin. She dealt with difficult subjects in an interesting and informative manner, combining solid research, depth and insight with an entertaining style." Chloe Stothart, Housing Today's finance editor, was also shortlisted in the same category.
On 14 November, deputy news editor Mark Beveridge was named new journalist of the year by the Periodical Training Council.
And last week editor Denise Chevin was shortlisted for editor of the year by the British Society of Magazine Editors.
