5:30PM Mirco Designs project manages and renovates Hotel Gleneagles

Hotel Gleneagles, the hotel that inspired legendary 1970s television sitcom Fawlty Towers, has relaunched following major renovations lead by interior designer Mirco Designs. The firm also carried out the QS and project management for the scheme.

Hotel co-owner, Brian Shone said: “We decided Hotel Gleneagles is always going to be famous for inspiring Fawlty Towers so, rather than being embarrassed about what has happened, we have chosen to capitalise on it.”

Now under new ownership, the hotel in the heart of Devon’s tourist capital, Torquay has been renovated to include a swimming pool, a new dining area, a luxurious lounge area and a conservatory. Ceilings have been raised, mirrors and Italian chandeliers installed and chairs have been imported from Holland.

The scheme took seven months to complete.

The idea for Fawlty Towers came when actor John Cleese and the rest of the Monty Python team booked into the old Gleneagles in the 1970s.
