The Institution of Engineering and Technology is offering employers a fast-track option for apprentices and technicians to gain the internationally recognised Engineering Technician (EngTech) qualification at the same time as becoming a technician member.

To enable companies to take up the fast-track route, the IET carries out a detailed assessment of an organisation’s apprenticeship scheme, which must meet with approved criteria.

The institution is pressing companies to recognise the value of professional registration and sign up to the scheme, as EngTech is an important career marker which defines skilled and experienced workers and keeps industry standards high.

Dr Alf Roberts, chief executive of the IET, says: “The EngTech qualification is something all apprentices and technicians should consider in order to advance their career opportunities, keep up to date with the latest technical developments and acquire valuable key skills.”

EngTech can also be used as a stepping stone towards Incorporated and Chartered Engineer qualifications.
