The Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) has tightened its rules on police response to remotely monitored security alarms again. From 1 April, its new 2006 policy review means that a significant number of security alarms will need to be upgraded.

In the agreed changes to the ACPO Security Systems Policy in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, the number of levels of police response will reduce from three to two, with the current level 2 response being abolished.

In addition, the maximum number of false activations that may be accepted over a rolling 12-month period for any alarm system before police response is withdrawn will be reduced from the current five to three.

Over and above this, the Nottinghamshire Police Force is pressing ahead with extra measures that will require all monitored alarm systems, regardless of their age, to be capable of delivering a confirmed activation.
