10:00AM QS firm appointed to cost and risk manage Glasgow Central Station and Glasgow Airport link

Faithful+Gould has won a role on the £160m Glasgow rail link. The firm, in conjunction with parent company Atkins, will provide commercial management services to Strathclyde Partnership for Transport.

The QS firm will be providing cost and risk management on the scheme to connect Glasgow Central Station and Glasgow Airport.

The project is currently going through the Parliamentary Bill process with royal assent expected in February 2007. Construction is expected to take two to three years.

The project involves:

. Modifying 5 miles of existing track
. Replacing the existing signalling and overhead power systems on this section of track
. New platforms at Glasgow Central Station by extending existing platform 11A into the main covered station area
. New 1.5 mile double track branch line on viaduct and embankment from Paisley St James station to the airport including a 140m single span motorway crossing at the M8
. New station and pedestrian link at Glasgow Airport.
. Major modifications to the airport infrastructure including utility diversions, road realignment and relocation of a major fuel farm facility
. Environmental and landscape mitigation measures, particularly around St James football pitches
