11:55AM Historic Mound building refurbished into new HBOS HQ

Faithful+Gould acted as project manager and planning supervisor on a two-year restoration of The Mound building in Edinburgh. Gordon Brown formally opened the restored building last month The project team for the project included Edinburgh architect Malcolm Fraser and contractor Sir Robert McAlpine.

The 200-year old listed building was restored internally and externally. The most significant element of the renovation was the restoration of the magnificent 'Great Hall' designed by David Bryce in the 1860s with the removal of the subdividing floor in the banking hall and reinstating the original double height hall. The halll will now act as a focal point and be used for major corporate events and for large meetings of HBOS executives.

Gordon Reid, director at F+G, said: "The restoration of The Mound is a project that we are very proud to have been involved in. The building is one of the most important in Edinburgh's architectural history, so it was absolutely paramount that the traditional character of the building was maintained whilst creating a dynamic 21st Century state of the art headquarters for HBOS."

As well as an extension to the existing museum on The Mound, the project also involved extensive external works to provide a link with the public and the creation of impressive conference and entertainment facilities for up to 300 HBOS executives, customers and visitors.
