5:00PM Mixed-use scheme planned on former site of Bell Green gas works in Sydenham

Faithful+Gould is working on plans for a £100m brownfield development in Lewisham, south London, which has just won planning consent. Castlemore Securities is developing the 400,000 sq ft mixed use scheme on part of the former Bell Green gas works site at Sydenham, SE6.

The scheme comprises 114,571 sq ft of business, industrial or warehouse units, 145,496 sq ft of non-food retail space and an associated garden centre, plus a 3,401 sq ft restaurant.

The scheme also features 640 car parking spaces and 125,000 sq ft of residential development incorporating 156 new units, of which 35% will be affordable.

Construction is expected to start next year with phased completion of the various elements in 2008 to 2010.

Eric Hall, planning director at Castlemore, said: "The redevelopment of the remaining vacant land at Bell Green will ensure that a key London brownfield site is transformed into a prosperous commercial and residential destination."

The planning consultant is Planning Perspectives.
