Project manager and cost consultant Faithful & Gould is to start work on the second stage of a project to boost housing and amenities for the Tees Valley area’s Chinese community.

The development includes a Chinese community centre and a retail development that will comprise a Chinese supermarket and restaurant. The project is due for completion in summer 2006.

The project will involve F&G providing a client representative on the development at St John’s Gate, Middlesbrough, which is being led by social housing provider Tees Valley Housing Group (TVHG).

F&G has already worked with TVHG to develop a four-storey residential block in the same area. The scheme was aimed at elderly members of Middlesbrough’s Chinese community after research by TVHG showed an acute lack of housing in the area available to this group. All flats have now been let.

Gary Marshall, associate director at F&G, said the current development would bring a “much needed” facility to the Chinese community in Tees Valley.

Faithful & Gould declined to comment on the value of the project.
