Access control

Barriers developed by FAAC (UK) are providing successful access control at bus operating company First’s new £5 million, state-of-the-art garage in Chelmsford, Essex.

Ansador of Battersea installed the 640 Series heavy duty barriers complete with seven metre beams at the depot, which replaces a 1930s building and will initially house 88 buses. Some 250 drivers, engineers and administrative staff are based at the site.

Each vehicle has a tag bolted to its chassis which is then read by a ground loop as it enters or exits the depot. The drivers are also afforded proximity cards, such that both vehicle and driver will be logged as they enter or leave the site (which has just received the police ‘Secured By Design’ Award and a ‘Secure Parking’ Award). Telephone-linked intercoms complete the package.
