ADE advances

Advanced Technology Video is showing a complete series of digital video recorders for the video security and surveillance industry. The Falcon DVR (below) comes in comes in four different models; a single channel VCR replacement or as a 4, 9 or 16 camera DVR.

Access control and security management specialist, AMAG, is showing its AMAG 625/725 system at IFSEC. AMAG is also showing a biometrics version of the powerful multiNODE 2000-8 controller. This allows unparalleled hardware integration with selected biometrics readers. Each multiNODE 2000 panel can store and authenticate up to 150,000 templates locally, depending on the biometric reader type.

Bewator is celebrating 25 years of innovation around the world with a series of new products, which include the RX3 telemetry receiver and the 6000 Series controller range. The 6000 Series is the first product to be launched from the video control stable to be powered by Molynx technology. It is designed to cover a variety of security requirements and includes controllers with 8 inputs and 2 inputs through to models with 32 inputs and 8 outputs. Eight separate units can be linked together to provide a distributed system of 256 inputs and 64 outputs.

The controller range has been designed to enhance operator efficiency. Its features include rubberised keys on the keypad, improving tactile capability, and a trackball instead of a joystick, which provides precise camera control and is virtually unbreakable. The Databac Group is holding its first public showing of the Dataimage Professional 32-bit photo ID software for card production and visitor control. The newly developed Windows-based software enables high quality card printing and visitor control with an optional biometric module that allows digital fingerprint storage and verification for high-security applications. The system will be demonstrated at IFSEC using a variety of card and paper pass printers, fingerprint readers, signature pads and scanners.

Databac is also showing Eltron's latest P200 series of card printers, aimed at low-volume desktop personalisation of plastic cards, and Fargo's top of the range HDP 820 card printer.

Dectel is showing its Smart FACE id CCTV system based around the use of face recognition technology. The system identifies the faces of known offenders giving managers prompt information and alerting patrolling store detectives. Dectel is also launching its digital image management service to help analogue CCTV users maximise the benefits of switching to digital systems. It can be interfaced with existing control room hardware, providing efficient use of operator resources. The system can also be expanded with multiple terminal positions, and it gives excellent remote site networking facilities making it the preferred choice for control room automation.

The Cheeta 4000 TouchView can control other manufacturers' receivers such as Adpro, DVST and Imigix, allowing one monitoring terminal to seamlessly interface with multiple devices. It provides high speed bi-directional audio and video transmission over a variety of paths including ISDN, PSTN and IP networks.

It travels at 3 meters per second, with twin ptz dome cameras continually monitoring on a pre-programmed sweep, or it can follow a suspect under operator control. In addition, the track is concealed, ensuring that cameras cannot be avoided by intruders because they cannot be seen.

SmartTrack is said to require less equipment and manpower than conventional CCTV systems and provides unrivalled monitoring capabilities for all types of large scale installations, retail, warehousing, distribution centres, airports, prisons, and other applications.

Loronix plays a hat-trick
Loronix Information Systems is launching three new products at IFSEC following its acquisition of Lanex, the digital recording specialist.

The LANEXmicroDVR is a feature-rich digital video recorder that is remotely accessible for standalone applications requiring data capture, and is aimed at ATMs, POS systems, access control or general surveillance. It allows up to 15 frames per second and 200 Gbs of storage per camera.

The LANEXnetDVR is a low-cost, networked digital video recorder for up to 16 cameras. It is also remotely accessible, enabling video to be reviewed or system settings to be changed from any location via a network and gives storage of up to 15 fps per camera.

Completing the hat trick is Insight, a mid-range product giving users an easy plug-and-play DVR device for sites where networking is either unnecessary or not possible. The cost-effective and easy-to-install digital video solution has the capacity for future expansion and can be upgraded to become part of Loronix' Enterprise system. Insight has 16 camera inputs, all of which can record at three images per second.

Calling on engineers
Mentor is launching a mobile data module for its CASH for Windows software at IFSEC. The 'On Call' module allows messages to be sent between call control and remote engineers out on the road. Two types of messages can be sent, free type text messages or job status messages. Engineers use the latter to accept or reject jobs sent to them, informing call control that they are en-route or on site. The module automatically updates the CASH server back at the call centre to show the latest situation.

Job completion details can also be transmitted back immediately, eliminating the problem of lost or late paperwork, allowing fast invoicing. And the module enables engineers to keep in touch without the interruptions caused by radio or mobile phones.

Video surveillance solutions
NKF Electronics, which produces cost-effective transmission equipment and network solutions, is launching two innovations at IFSEC, a 64-channel digital video bus and an MPEG-2 IP codec and Fast-Ethernet solutions. The DVBus 8000 is based on an 8-channel video multiplexer, which can be combined to a 64-channel video bus, with two-way audio and data. The applied 10-bit technology and digital filtering techniques ensures a stable and high performance transmission. The DVBus 8000 is aimed at situations in which the fibre count is very low, with high camera usage over long distances.

The new video codec is based on MPEG-2 compression, offering DVD quality images at low data rates. Together with the newly developed transmission system, based on 10/100-BASE-T interfaces, the company will be showing a complete concept on video networking.

Expanded range
Network Video Technologies (NVT) is debuting an expanded range of products and demonstrating its UTP video transmitters and receivers that provide a viable alternative to using coax, or fibre optic cables for video transmission distances of up to 1 mile. Along with NVT's existing range of single, eight and sixteen channel and ready-to-go kits, the new models are designed to give savings on equipment racking space, installation time and cost, and overall power consumption.

The line up includes the NV-413A 4-channel passive transceiver and NV-462R 4-channel powered receiver. The NV-3213R passive transceiver and NV-3262R powered receiver make up the new 32-channel model line up.

All NVT powered transceivers feature AGC, allowing differing distance cable runs to look equally sharp, clear and identical at the monitor. Other features include built-in mains, telemetry and video signal interference rejection, protection from hum bars and damaging voltage surges.

NVT is also giving visitors the opportunity of winning an 8-channel camera video transmission kit or one of four single-channel transmission systems at the show.

Panasonic is featuring biometrics on its stand with new developments in iris recognition technology for cameras, desktop/laptops and access control systems. It will be showing its BM-ET100US Authenticam with Iridian's PrivateID software to ensure data access security on desktop/laptops.

The high speed, high precision 'one glance' identification system, which has an error rate of less than 1/100,000 is "one of the world's most advanced access and entry point security identification systems" and is aimed at financial institutions, offices, labs, traffic control centres, airports and prisons.

Among other introductions are the KX-HCM10 Network Camera, the Matrix System 850 as well as an 8-way digital 120Gb hard disk recorder.

Paxton Access Ltd is showing its full range of systems at IFSEC. The company says its products are designed to be simple to use, yet boast a sophisticated range of features making them suitable for a myriad of applications from single door to PC-based network systems. Its Net 2 product is a windows-based PC system that can grow from one door to multiple doors on a site with no hardware redundancy.

Pelco is featuring several new products this year. Among them is the Spectra III discreet video security dome system (below) aimed for use at upscale office buildings to harsh environments. It includes four different dome drives with a variety of feature sets and camera packages. The Spectra III SE also stores all location specific settings in the dome enclosure's non-volatile memory, ensuring they are automatically programmed into a new dome drive when upgraded. Installers can also test the dome installation before the control system is installed and programmed via a PDA.

Also on offer is the DX2000 series remote-operation digital video recorder, which can be interfaced to cash registers, ATM machines and other devices for data and video capture and retrieval. It is a fully remote managed and accessed DVR, and allows video storage for different lengths of time depending on the video type, as well as a built in capacity of up to 640Gb of hard disk space.

Meanwhile Pelco's VMX200 video management system has an interactive system schematic that simplifies system set up, enabling a graphical port for Pelco video devices, allowing users to become expert operators within minutes.

Philips is capturing the excitement of the 2002 FIFA World Cup on its stand and launching the Hi-Q 4 channel digital recorder among its new products. The revolutionary product is said to be a world first featuring digital recording on all 4 channels simultaneously for a full two days. It uses ultra high quality MPEG2 compression and comes complete with true motion detection, four alarm inputs plus fast search/retrieval and can be used to add digital event recording to existing CCTV systems. A one-touch alarm review button allows all alarm events to be reviewed without interrupting recording.

Among other products, Philips is also showing its REO CCTV observation system, which now has an option of digital recording, the enhanced G3 AutoDome camera family with new additions for indoor/outdoor, colour/mono and day/night operation, and other Netcam cameras and networked CCTV solutions for remote surveillance via networks or the internet.

New for PA and emergency evacuation, Philips is also showing the Praesideo digital PA system designed to meet the latest worldwide EVAC standards for emergency evacuation. Praesideo gives full multi-zone capability with virtually unlimited call stations and speakers. The networked system is said to be simple to install and expand without expensive re-wiring. Messages can be pre-recorded and stored digitally and broadcast automatically in response to alarms or events, or generated via call stations or fireman's stations with priority for emergency messages.

Pyronix is aiming to wow the security industry with a line up of 49 new products scheduled for release this year. The company's Veritec P2 sequential confirmation detector sets the standard for its new line up, which include panels, detectors and keypads. The RegardLog is a new video, audio and data server for high video resolution applications with integrated web server. The standalone unit offers a resolution of 704 x 576 pixels, high frame rate of up to 25 frames per second for 8 cameras, long term recording and archiving, multicast and multi-site video transmission and full monitoring and control through a standard web browser. It also supports cellular, PSTN, ISDN, ADSL, LAN and Wireless LAN transmission.

Ultrak is showing an on-stand system design at IFSEC, created to demonstrate its extensive line-up of integrated product solutions. Visitors can receive a comprehensive demo of CCTV, video matrices, access control, public address and intercom solutions from any one of seven control points.

The company recently announced the release of a brand new controller, the KEGS5000 system keyboard. It features a rate-proportional pan and tilt joystick with integral twist action zoom and is capable of managing up to 256 cameras and domes, 16 multiplexers and 16 VCRs.

Cameras can be selected for control and display either by multiplexer and camera number, or directly by the camera's own number. An added 10 pre-programmable macros and definable 'soft key' recalls give extra control flexibility.

Vector Technology's Securi Link has been designed in modular form to enable CCTV transmission in difficult locations, such as transmitting pictures from a railway platform to a moving train, along a lift shaft or through free space between fixed points. The cost-effective, wireless system is said to be technically superior to other wireless systems and does not require either licences or initiation signals.

The company has engaged in many 'world-first' projects including Lift-Master, which is the only system of its type, enabling CCTV transmission both to and from a moving lift car. Cameras located in the lift car act as a strong deterrent to vandalism or attacks in the lift, and allow continuous tracking of an individual in a multi-storey building.

Videor Technical is presenting its latest eneo products, which include the DLR-101/40 single-channel digital recorder, the DLR-104/40 four-channel version as well as cameras such as the VKC-139/IR-SU day/night camera with integral image memory, and the VSC-100P (below, left) high resolution ¼ inch colour camera with integral recorder functionality.

The DLR-104/40 digital audio/video recorder has four video inputs with automatic camera detection and can be configured with the OSD menu for each operation. It enables recording to be carried out for five days without interruption at an acceptable 4Kb per frame. Its integrated search function assists in speed searches when an alarm is triggered. And its two RS232 ports can be used to connect an analogue modem for remote data transmission.

The single channel DLR-101/40 digital audio/video recorder is aimed at banks and shops and records image material on a 40Gb removable hard disk. Images can also be stored and archived on an external hard disk connected at the USB port.

Videx Security is unveiling its re-styled 3000 series of monitors and telephones. Together with its new design, the range remains highly durable from standard audio-only units to full-colour video, using up-to-the-minute technology.

Also on show will be the VPROX 1000 software, which allows users to monitor and have complete control over a multi-entrance access control system using a Windows-based PC. The system can carry out a range of functions including the recording of user logs and complete system set-up. The program can also run while other tasks are being performed.

Both items can be mains or battery operated and the camera system can be expanded with up to two additional cameras on the same monitor. A weatherproof camera enables external use, and the easy-to-install system works in light conditions down to 2 lux.

When the PIR camera senses movement, the monitor will switch to the relevant camera and gives an audible alert. The monitor has video and audio inputs and outputs to enable recording and reviewing of video tapes.

Foxy multi-site solution
Belgian manufacturer, VSK electronics, is showing its FOXnet and FOXeye product lines at this year's IFSEC. The multimedia security system covers intruder detection, access control, banking applications and digital video recording and transmission.

All FOXnet and FOXeye panels (right) have an on-board Ethernet connection, enabling communication via company LANs and WANs instead of dedicated wiring solutions. Secondary or back-up links over telephone lines are provided.

The system enables multi-site management using VSKwin software, unlimited interactions between FOXnet and FOXeye panels, drop and drag graphical user interface, web-based control of FOXeye and new modular adaptive wiring architecture. The systems have been installed in several bank branches, petrol stations, post offices, supermarkets and other multi-site applications across Europe.

Wireless introduction
VTQ Videotronic is exhibiting several products at the show including a new range of wireless transmitters that measure just 18x18x8mm for a wide range of frequencies from 0.9 – 2.7 GHz with a transmission power of 10 – 200mW and adjustable channels.

The company is also introducing the SupraLink range using the 5.8GHz frequency band. A wide assortment of antennae is also available for all frequency bands.

VTQ Videotronic's most valuable innovation is, however, the Video-At-Net, which enables just one cable to be used for all cameras, control signals and voltage supply. This reduces installation costs and allows easier expansion of the system.

The selection of batteries on display at Yuasa's stand will be of particular interest to manufacturers of emergency lighting systems, security and fire alarm products, CCTV and OEM electrical equipment.

The advanced performance Yuasa SW VRLA batteries are designed for manufacturers and users of uninterruptible power supplies. The batteries provide extra capacity under high rate discharge when compared with standard NP models. They also out-perform the high rate NPH series.

The SW batteries are also a further step forward in Yuasa's search for more power and capacity from less space.

Also on show will be the Reliart 15 year life VRLA batteries, aimed at exceptionally long service life and the long established Yuasa NP series giving a wide choice of types for security, fire, lighting and CCTV applications.

Superior compression
Wavelet Technology Marketing is showing its renowned 16-input WAVESTORE DVR, which now has a new LINUX-based software suite.

The new software is said to be far superior for real-time systems such as DVRs and eliminates the many problems of Windows (DOS-based) software.

The most notable new feature of this second generation DVR is true multi-server viewing. This enables a group of WAVESTOREs to be viewed from a PC viewing station as a single cohesive group, so that any camera or collection of cameras can be viewed by its unique name or number. Each WAVESTORE server can also view any camera within the group in the same way as a client PC, making expansion easy by networking on Cat 5 twisted pair cable.

A low-cost, 4-input DVR is being introduced, and can be expanded to an 8-input version by adding one hardware card. This can be linked with a 16-input WAVESTORE. A high performance 4-input WAVESTORE MACH-4 completes the family, and can also be expanded to an 8-input version, but gives up to 50 images per second in PAL for each input.
