Evicted from Diego Garcia

Did I detect the swallowing of government misinformation in last week's Housing Today (page 10)?

The 5000 inhabitants of Diego Garcia were not "evacuated" from their island, but were subject to a compulsory and illegal eviction. This was one of the most callous and racist events in modern British history, perpetrated to build a nuclear bomber base for the Americans.

It is more shaming that we are still refusing to face our responsibility for rebuilding their devastated lives.
