Employers from the building services engineering sector are being given the chance to shape two new diplomas for 14-19 year olds.

The government initiative will create a learning structure through a combination of work-based and academic learning.

The Engineering Diploma and the Construction and the Built Environment Diploma are being developed by a partnership of Sector Skills Councils including SummitSkills. The process includes asking employers for their views on what shape they would like the diploma to take.

Keith Marshall, chief executive of SummitSkills, says: "This is one of the first chances for employers to get involved in a qualification that will be of real benefit.

"The diplomas are in development now - the sooner employers respond, the greater the chance of ensuring that they can play a part in shaping the new programmes."

Any employers wishing to take part in the consultation process should visit www.summitskills.org.uk/14-19 or call 01908 303960.
