ECA firms that are members of the JIB are obliged to offer JIB grading to eligible employees within four weeks of them commencing employment.
This obligation is set out in Rule 12 of the JIB. Individuals who are not graded are not entitled to receive an ECS card or the associated health and safety assessment.
In a number of recent cases where operatives have invoked the JIB grievance procedure, it has become apparent that the individuals have not been offered grading by their ECA member company.
It should be noted that even if eligible employees are not offered JIB grading, the individual is still entitled to the terms and benefits of the JIB National Working Rules and procedures. These include death benefit, which can be as high as £67 000 in the case of an accident on site.
For further assistance call the JIB on 020 8302 0031.
