I fully agree with the concept of admitting non-cognate graduates to membership of the CIOB ('Degrees of separation' CM, July/August). The commercial world is continuously evolving, and simply sticking to construction graduates will lead to a slow march towards adapting to change.

I am a quantity surveyor, but I have opted to pursue studies in business management. I am doing an MBA, which I believe will help me to understand other facets of management, financing of projects and budgeting to name but a few.

After all, construction is also a business.
