The new Government carbon emission targets may not have been welcomed universally across UK business.
However, there is one area of business that is sharing the energy saving burden placed on the manufacturing industry.

The commercial buildings sector has already made substantial savings by implementing existing energy control technology that can reduce gas usage by up to 70%. Hand-in-hand with this reduction in energy spend goes a reduction in carbon emissions that could help significantly toward the new government targets. It has been estimated by the Building Research Establishment that if similar controls were employed to their full extent, it could save UK industry £500 million per year.

This is the positive message. The negative message is that research shows only 25% of the UK's top companies have anyone with any responsibility for energy policy on their board. I wonder then how successful we will be in implementing moves to meet the government's targets? This suggests that government must place stronger emphasis on educating companies on how to save energy as well as simply instructing them on the need to do so.
