A group of security journalists from UK magazines went on a fact-finding tour of Japan and China as guests of Panasonic.

The group, including the Editor of Security Installer, Alan Hyder, and the Publisher, Lucie Burgess, saw Japanese and Chinese security equipment manufacturing in action at Panasonic’s PSS-SSD (Tsunashima) and Saedo factories in Japan and PSSZ factory in China.

They also discussed security issues and worldwide trends with the company’s Japanese executives and presented their views of the UK CCTV market.

The group, which included Brian Sims, the Editor of Security Installer’s sister title SMT magazine, were also treated to a tour of the Matsushita History Museum, devoted to the life and influential business philosophies of Konosuke Matsushita, the company’s legendary founder.

Also included in the itinerary was a tour of the Panasonic Centre. This included an exhibition on long-term future trends in security and the future “networked” society.

In Suzhou, China they toured the plant, opened last year, as guests of Panasonic CEO, in China, Noboro Fujii.

Said Alan Hyder: “The tour was a fascinating close-up into Japanese and Chinese production methods. It offered a great insight into the ‘work ethic’ of these two countries and how the philosophies of the founder still apply.

“Because CCTV consumption in the UK is so high we are regarded as a world leader in this field and it was an honour to present our views of the current UK market, and where we think it is going, to the company’s executives.”
