DEFRA has recently launched a consultation on draft new regulations that aim to establish a framework for the establishment of ecodesign standards for energy-using products.

The standards will cover the environmental impact of the manufacturing, usage and disposal of products such as boilers, lighting ballasts, water heaters, office lighting, street lighting, residential air conditioning and ventilation including split systems, electric motors between 1 and 150 kW for applications such as water pumps and fans for ventilation units in commercial buildings.

CIBSE will be submitting comments to the proposals – anyone interested should forward them to Hanny Abuzaid at CIBSE by 25 November (email habuzaid@cibse.org).
