The WEEE Directive, Part L of the Building Regulations, waste disposal and implementing ISO 14001 are all pressing issues for the contractor. With this in mind, the ECA has launched a new area on its web site that will tackle these and other environmental issues.

The new pages will help those smaller firms who might feel daunted by a mountain of environmental legislation. Even small electrical contractors are now often being asked to produce an environmental policy. The web pages provide guidance on a wide range of issues, such as how to create an environmental policy, and free sources of practical advice on reducing waste.

But, while it may seem like these issues pose problems, there are also opportunities. While it is now harder to dispose of waste, there are ways that contractors can minimise operational waste and cut costs. “The ECA is already well regarded for its approach to quality and safety and a responsible and cost-effective approach to environmental performance can boost our reputation with clients even further, as well as delivering bottom line operational savings,” said Paul Reeve, ECA health and safety adviser.

The new web pages will have practical advice, news and the ECA’s views on key issues. Go to www.eca.co.uk.
