Electrical contractors report 70% fall in major accidents since 2001
The 2008 RIDDOR-reportable accident statistics, collected by the Joint Industry Board (JIB) as part of the ECA's ZAP initiative, show a further major improvement in the rate of reportable accidents among ECA members.
There were no reported fatalities to ECA member employees in 2008 and the rate of major accidents has fallen by over 70% since the launch of the ZAP initiative in 2001.
In addition, there has been an almost 50% fall in all RIDDOR-reportable accidents since 2001.
The ECA’s ZAP initiative helps drive improvements in all areas of health and safety performance. It also contains challenging targets for the reduction of work-related accidents and incidents.
