The Electrical Contractors' Association has launched the "new face" of its Fire and Security Steering Group, now named The Fire and Security Association.

The group says it will be stepping up its activities to further represent the interests of ECA members in the fire and security sectors of the wider electrotechnical industry. It will focus on lobbying, guidance and training to develop and maintain standards, "particularly in light of recent legislation and regulatory reform for both fire and security. The FSA will benefit from the established ECA platform, and will build on these existing foundations to become the voice of all those involved in the provision of electronic fire and security systems." The ECA created its specialist section for fire and security systems installations more than 20 years ago and ECA members have a high level of expertise, having installed systems for more than fifty years.

The ECA says work associated with fire and security systems continues to be a significant component of member activity, with £600m-plus of member turnover in this sector, creating demand for a representative body. It is chaired by the MD of Southern Monitoring Services Ltd, Steve Kimber, who has over 32 years' experience in the industry. Further information: Jane Rogers 020 7313 4831. Web: www.eca.co.uk
