The centre, run by charity Training for Life, will have business start-up units, a gym, a sensory learning centre for small children, a training centre and a 100-seat restaurant employing professionals and 30 homeless trainees.
Visiting another centre run by Training for Life, junior housing minister Yvette Cooper said: "This £475,000 will help to provide valuable skills, which may lead to permanent employment, more stability and better health. It will also offer vital support to rebuild confidence, which is an important stepping stone to getting to work."
Cooper spoke as the latest homelessness figures were released showing the number of families in B&Bs has almost halved since June last year, but the number of homeless people has risen 18% since September 2002. Homelessness charity Shelter called for support services for everyone in temporary accommodation.
