11:35AM Healy Kelly Turner & Townsend on major transport scheme

The route for a metro scheme to be programme managed by Healy Kelly Turner & Townsend has been published by Ireland’s Rail Procurement Agency. Metro North will serve an expected 34 million passengers over the course of a year and provide a link between Dublin city centre with Dublin Airport and beyond.

With an anticipated construction programme of four years commencing in 2009, Metro North forms a crucial part of the Irish Government’s Transport 21 infrastructure framework.

Appointed by the RPA, Healy Kelly Turner & Townsend will provide a programme management service incorporating project and cost management services. In addition, the commission will include a lead role in the PPP procurement process.

David Fox, Healy Kelly Turner & Townsend’s Project Director on the RPA commission, said: “As an established transport, infrastructure and PPP specialist, Healy Kelly Turner & Townsend is best placed to deliver this landmark project for the city of Dublin. Using our experience of the Edinburgh Airport Rail Link, Nottingham Express Transit, Channel Tunnel Rail Link and Heathrow Express, we look forward to working with the RPA on delivering this key part of Dublin’s integrated light rail and metro network.”

The project has undergone an extensive consultation period and as a result the project will include a new landmark stop under the River Liffey at O’Connell Bridge with access points from both north and south of the river. The new route will have over 2,000 park and ride spaces and incorporates excellent bus and rail interchanges with the aim of reducing road journeys by 100m km annually.
