Dow Corning have been used for weathersealing the windows, metalwork and structural glazing elements on a landmark new apartment block called the Atlantica on the Strand of South Africa's Cape Peninsular.
The structure was designed to represent a billowing spinnaker sail by architect Bartel Viljoen from Albertyn Viljoen Architects in Paarl.
Dow Corning's 993 structural silicone sealant was specified for Atlantica's structurally glazed facade. A two-part, neutral curing silicone sealant specifically developed to structurally bond glass and metal to other construction materials, 993 has excellent adhesion to a wide range of substrates including coated, enamelled and reflective glass, anodised and polyester paint coated aluminium and stainless steel.
It also demonstrates stability through a wide temperature range of -55 to +120 degrees C. Atlantica's windows and doors were weathersealed with Dow Corning's best-selling 791 - specially designed for expansion, connection, perimeter and all other types of movement joints.
