Don’t ask me to pay more for police

So Michael Shwartz would pay extra for more local police (Letters, 30 January, page 21)? Good for him. The police in London are crassly incompetent and hugely expensive. They catch less than 8% of all criminals and spend 60% of their time form-filling. What I want is more efficient policing systems, catching more criminals and costing me less.
