PIR detectors are more focused than ever on cutting false alarms and making installation easier
External wireless coverage
Full coverage of difficult external areas is now possible with the weatherproof RFX-3 receiver, says GJD. The manufacturer of external detection systems has launched the receiver with back and front tamper as the receiver for its Opal RFX wireless PIR used in CCTV and event management applications.
The robust housing is neatly designed to encase the electronics and concealed cable entry. There are three pairs of volt-free contacts with individual timers up to 60 seconds and a further eight activity and monitoring outputs.
The receiver can effectively monitor the active state of up to three Opal RFX 35m outdoor intruder detectors.

Prestigious passives
Texecom’s Prestige QD combines sleek styling with cutting edge technology. It has interchangeable electronic modules that allow six different detector PCBs to be mounted within the same housing.
The range consists of a PIR, quad, Clockwise detector, a twin dual element PIR, a dual technology detector and a Petwise pet immune detector.
Also part of the Prestige range, but within different matching housings, are the Prestige Compact IR, a miniature cost-effective PIR and the Prestige MR, a digital PIR with mirrored optics.

Easier for the installer
The KX15DQ is a digital quad with the latest in PIR detection from Pyronix. It combines innovative features with tried and tested technologies for high reliability.
It has on-board selectable resistor values of 5K6, 4K7, 2K2 and 1K catering for most control panels on the market, eliminating the need for separate resistors. When using the in-built EOL resistors, installation is kept to a minimum with no awkward wiring or checking resistor colour codes.
Simply move the header links supplied to the resistor values required. It even has the flexibility to still be wired as conventional normally closed loops.
The distance between the pyro-electric sensor and the lens is identical for each detection zone lens. This eliminates distortion and provides excellent focused zones, says the company. Wall and ceiling tamper proof brackets are supplied.

Wide range of choices
Apollo from Guardall has combined sealed optics, sneak lens, pulse count option and overall reliability. Features include temperature compensation, and Surface Mount Device manufacture. It includes 12m, 15m and ceiling mount (360) variants. There is a choice of mounting brackets and a custom printing option on the cover.
Following on from the million-selling Apollo series, the microcontroller-based M-2 is designed to retain the distinctive styling of the Guardall V-series. The choice of three coverage options (volumetric, corridor and curtain), all with four selectable levels of sensitivity (pulse count) provide the M-2 with high flexibility for a wide range of applications.

Common housing
GardTec’s eurosec PIRs share a common housing as well as white light protection, selectable pulse count and automatic temperature compensation. The detectors are also available in PIR, dual technology and quad versions.
GardTec uses custom integrated circuitry on its PIRs which makes the engineer set-up time simple and keeps installation time to a minimum.

For high risk security
Rokonet’s iWISE AM is said to be the most advanced PIR for high-risk applications, using two active infrared channels for anti-masking. One active IR channel utilises special prisms located between the LEDs to detect any object obstructing the detector’s field-of-view.
The second active IR channel is located behind the lens to protect against spraying or covering the lens – even with lacquer. The iWISE AM is said to provide the ultimate catch performance and false alarm immunity, enabled by digital signal processing, patented True Temperature Compensation and an improved lens design.

Digital protection
Activ8 from ADE is said to offer a simple, reliable and cost effective solution to meet most installation needs. The range has high precision sealed optics as standard, full microprocessor control and streamlined, low-profile aesthetic design. Pet immunity s standard and all PIRs in the range are Quad (four element) PIR sensors.
They have adjustable pulse count to minimise false alarms, fully comply with EN standards, and are supplied with white light filtration for harsher environments.
Knockout s top and bottom and optional ceiling and wall brackets are said to make installation easy.

Long term performance
Cooper Security says its Scantronic range of PIRs uses modern techniques which eliminate the many types of interference that affect reliability of traditional detectors to guarantee superior long-term performance and reduce false alarms.
Designed to fit with any décor, the range uses common housings described as stylish and compact, robust and discreet.
The 420 is a domestic digital PIR, (pictured below right) with 3D cylindrical optics providing a 12m 90 degree multiple curtain coverage with creep zone, and True Motion Recognition. It also has adjustment-free, fast installation with remote walk test; selectable event counter, one or two motion events, fully sealed optics and solid state relay for silent operation. It is said to be suitable for homes, offices and light commercial buildings.

Stylish blue light PIR
Bosch’s stylish new Blue Line family of PIRs provides a unique new ‘blue light’ intruder detector solution for any size of commercial or residential property. It features a distinctive blue LED for motion test instead of the usual red, plus optional CCTV capability and is suited for applications where a combination of stylish good looks and immunity to false alarms is important.
All models share a common modular design, allowing installers to meet a wide range of requirements with a single range, saving on parts inventories and training costs.
Installation is said to be quick and easy and additional plug-in camera modules allows CCTV to be added easily and economically.
