The recent opening of extensions to the Trafford Centre, Manchester’s £1.6 billion shopping and leisure centre, marks the end of 18 months of construction.

FES provided the electrical services. The new Great Hall houses a breathtaking chandelier, believed to be the world’s largest, which has been formed from thousands of pieces of Chinese crystal.

Dynalite was chosen for the lighting control, as the 148 000 m2 shopping centre already contains Dynalite.

The Great Hall features a combination of DMX control, heavy duty DRC1210 and 1220 relay switching controllers, including five located within the chandelier itself.

The chandelier comprises six tiers incorporating crystal spikes and twinkling stars. Illuminating these are 18 fibre-optic devices that are DMX controlled. Each has a colour wheel for dynamic colour sequencing.

The chandelier switches on in stages and is triggered via the Dynalite timeclock and event task engine.
