5:00PM The £1.7m Whitlingham Water Activities Centre is on the shortlist for a Prime Minister's award, among others

A Davis Langdon project, a £1.7m sailing centre in Norwich, has been shortlisted for three awards. Whitlingham Water Activities Centre opened earlier this year. Davis Langdon acted as cost manager on the scheme, which features an innovative canopy structure over the central decked section to provide cover in all weather conditions.

The centre has been shortlisted for a British Construction Industry Award in two categories: The Prime Minister's Award and Best Small Project Award. The centre has also been shortlisted by the LABC (Local Authority Building Control) in the Best Public/Community category.

The project was jointly funded by Norfolk County Council, the Big Lottery Fund and Sports England. It lies on the banks of Whitlingham Great Broad within Whitlingham County Park. The building was designed by architect Snell Associates and engineer Buro Happold.
