4:45PM Consultant acted as QS and planning supervisor on £170m, eight-year project

Cyril Sweett has completed the £170m redevelopment of Manchester's Arndale shopping centre. The firm was cost consultant and planning supervisor on the scheme for joint client Prudential Property Investment Managers and Capital Shopping Centres.

The Arndale has been under development for eight years. The project encompassed 1.4m sq ft of office space and over 200 shops, cafes and restaurants. The final phase saw the creation of the Wintergarden, which centres on a 100 ft high glass atrium.

Cyril Sweett said the project transformed the Arndale, which was now "virtually unrecognisable from the yellow and brown tiled monolith that used to dominate the city centre".

The project team included architect Chapman Taylor, contractor Bovis Lend Lease, services engineer Foreman Roberts and structural engineer Mott MacDonald.
