Workers in an office complex in Croydon, south London can breathe easier while users save energy after the installation of a new heat recovery system.
The partial refurbishment of 1960s-built Stephenson House in Croydon south London, saw the first UK installation of a new heat recovery air conditioning system from Daikin.

The eight-storey building was originally conditioned throughout by an induction system; the refurbishment involved converting the first floor to hi-tech office accommodation standards. Consultant Silcock Dawson & Partners was employed to design and supervise installation of the new m&e services. Calibre Ventilation carried out the mechanical installation; ESE Electrical Services was electrical contractor under principal contractor Avondale Interiors.

The Daikin VRV II was chosen after a feasibility study, primarily for: its high cop ratings; low energy consumption; flexible installation that allowed the fast track programme to be met; and the ability to free up floor space. The existing perimeter induction units were removed and a false ceiling installed, large enough for the VRV II indoor fan coil units; heat recovery units are roof-mounted.
